THE MAIN REASONS FOR THE FAILURE OF FRENCH PROTESTANTISM IN VIETNAM IN THE LATE XIX–EARLY XX CENTURY Tác giả Mai K Da Ngày xuất bản 2017/12 Tạp chí ЧЕЛОВЕК> ОБЩЕСТВО< ГОСУДАРСТВО Trang 26 Mô tả American and French Protestantism are two forces that actually carried out their missionary activities in Vietnam in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, but their fate in Vietnamese culture is completely different. While American missionaries were successful and played an increasing role in the creation of the Protestant community, the French Protestants had to leave their positions on the lands that were the French colony. Based on the presentation of the most important religious events of the French Protestant Church in Vietnam, in this article analyze three main causes of the failure of French Protestantism: 1) unfavorable socio-economic conditions missionary activity, 2) limited object and wrong methods of preaching, 3) weakness of theological argumentation. This has important implications for solving the problems of Protestant theology in Vietnam nowadays.
